Goldeneye is awesome FPS, and Im planning to write why it is. So, all those H* 2 games shall wait, since I have no fear. It is a James Bond-license game. Hm. Good, still here! Youre good reader! It is an ordinary FPS, in its core. Nothing particularly fancy about it, graphics are just horribly wrong and uh, wrong. But when you boot up the game, the music kicks in, you get in Bond mood, scroll around the menus, read stuff, start the level and then your gun appears. Normal silenced pistol! Whee! Ich binne so original! But now comes the feature I love most in this game. Auto-aiming. For those who just got heart attack about that word, it is integral part of the game, and if you disable youre going to lose some of the charm, well, might. The gun isnt just slapped in middle of your chest, it is moving one. I dont mean "inch left if player turned over at 200 mph", I mean it moves when you aim, and move, and look around, and quite realistically! I just love this feature, adds so much feel. Especially with akimbo Kobb's. >:D The physics are great too, not HL2 level Im sure, but I bet the death animations will rawk HL2's any day! For example, one guy got shot in the chest, he looked down in disbelief, and then silently collapse. I shot one guy in the head, and he pushed against the wall, and slowly dropped from there. Add this with the gun movingness, Bond, music, few MG's, dozens of clips of ammo, explosions, and you have Goldeneye. And way before Killzone/Half-Life 2/Halo 2 were released. The missions are quite unique and impressive, too. Most of the FPS's from the previous generation had only "go there and sit there until I order you to move forward" but Goldeneye has OBJECTIVES. Get the decoder, blow up the bottles, rescue this and that, and finally bungee jump from the platform! Just beatiful. It is also quite damn hard on 00 Agent level, you get few objectives more (which you can complete on lower difficulty levels too, but is not required), less ammo, more enemies, and such. Oh, when you finally get hit, you short of stop there and grin from the pain for awhile, before you can shoot again, and when you die, its displayed few times on third-person camera on slowmotion. Look at the bullets fly! That brings me in the next subject, the whole being shot at factor is just amazing. The bullets when they hit arent just silly "thud's" at the wall, they are "KA-PIUNG", with appropriate special effects. h we And the enemies, while not the most clever of the bunch, they have brains. They try to flank you, (and even succeed at it), do terminator style attacks, and be a pain in the butt generally. Only silly thing is that they rush at you. Well, thats how it is in MP games these days. Oll. "Quite ironic, golden boy is the traitor."
